the cafateria at work today. I am half Irish (father is full) and even I am looking at this and wondering who thought vomit was an appealing food item.

My son fell in love with Shepard’s pie when he had it at daycare. He came home and told me he had this cake for lunch, but instead of frosting it had mashed potatoes and instead of ... everything else it had meat and corn!

Sheppard’s pie is amazing if done right.

That’s cute, but perhaps he’s still used to baby food? LOL! Just kidding, maybe it was made better, blech.

I heard it’s popular in North Korea

I’m not Irish or British or wherever shepard’s pie originated from, but I enjoy it. Who doesn’t like meat, potatoes, corn, etc.? And all in the same bite? Hell yeah. Makes a great leftover to bring for lunch too.

This is slightly more appealing than the one I’m eating. It literally looks like... vomit poo.

I guess you need more irish in you to make you like shepherd’s pie, I love it. But it is SUPPOSED to be made with lamb and most make it with beef in the US.
(full disclosure I’m 75% Irish and 25% Scottish)

The other half of me is Scandinavian, they must have killed off the Irish in me that likes such things.

true, but I was just trying to be funny with all the stereotypes about China and NK eating dog meat

Seems like we’ve been short on Shamoononon’s Lunch posts here lately. That’s just not right.

Isn’t it supposed to be called cottage pie when made with beef instead?
What if you’re a weirdo and want to make it with goat? I suppose that might work OK if it can be cooked slow enough to make the goat meat tender. Hmmmm.

I prefer Cottage Pie as a general rule - Shepherd’s Pie with beef mince instead of lamb - but still, Shepherd’s Pie’s lovely, dude. I’ve had crappy Shepherd’s Pie - crappy mash, flavourless meat and so on - and it’s terrible, but there’s nothing like a good Shepherd’s Pie in winter.
(Well, ‘cept Cottage Pie, which is basically the same thing with a meat I like slightly more in mince form.)

SHUT THE FUCK UP SHEPARDS PIE IS THE 8th WONDER OF THE WORLD. YOU AND YOUR SHITTY OPINION ARE BOTH BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD.

Hahaha, I don’t know on both counts. I just know it’s not traditional shepherd’s pie with beef.

Isn’t it technically cottage pie or something else if it is made from beef?
![]() 03/17/2016 at 15:26 |

Because God knows no true American would eat a pie made of mashed potatoes, meat and gravy.
Find some good pie then come back and repent.

Someone else just said that and I’d never heard of it, but I can’t tell you how many times I find people trying to play beef off as proper shepherd’s pie.

Oppo is a rich tapestry of posts which, in and of themselves, cause sub-groups of people to go “what the fuck”. Your lunch posts are that -
enrichening.

It tastes fine, but I will give you that it isn’t much in the looks department. One of my uncles on the Italian side married an Irish woman, and my grandfather used to give him crap for that (great Irish sports cars, great Irish painters, great Irish cuisine, great Irish wine, great Irish architecture, great Irish popes, great Irish shipbuilders, etc. etc.) - in good humor, of course.
